BJ06 - Amethyst Quartz. Amatitlán, Eduardo Neri Municipality, Guerrero, Mexico.

The crystals from Guerrero are larger around the lower and middle part, tapering towards the ends, a good way to generally distinguish them from the locality of Veracruz, also in Mexico. The main large crystal is disposed on matrix accompanied by other Amethyst crystal and Hyalite opal. The colour is a deep reddish purple. The crystals show an excellent clarity with phantoms of colour along the prisms and with reflecting fluid inclusions. The cause of that colour is those Fe3+ atoms substituting for some silicon atoms.
