April 2022, New Mineral Edition
We have added a good selection of the new find of Calcites coming from the Zhudi mine. The Zhudi mine is located in the Zhudi Village, in the Liancheng County (China), where we picked up very nice specimens some weeks ago. The Zhudi mine is a lead-zinc deposit, currently exhausted. The mine's owners were recovering some Calcites for collection purposes.
The Calcites are lining the walls of huge cavities inside the mine as you can see on the video below. The Calcites are forming groups and clusters of well formed flattened prismatic crystals with hexagonal shapes and a marked zoning. These Calcites are known as "sandwich Calcites" for the miners. The tabular crystals have a translucent zone sandwiched between two milky white zones. Some pieces also show pink hues. Under long wave UV light this form of Calcite is highly fluorescent with a beautiful orange glow.
Beside these new Calcites we have added a selection of other minerals of very good quality. Not everyone likes the Calcites :)

BQ16 - Amethyste with Hyalite Opal. Amatitlán, Eduardo Neri Municipality, Guerrero, Mexico.
Some of the best Amethysts in the world came from the far region of Amatlitán, Guerrero in Mexico. The crystals from Guerrero are larger around the lower and middle part, tapering towards the ends, a good way to generally distinguish them from the locality of Veracruz, also in Mexico. The main large crystal is disposed on matrix accompanied by other Amethyst crystal and Hyalite opal. The colour is a deep reddish purple. The crystals show an excellent clarity with phantoms of color along the prisms and with reflecting fluid inclusions. The cause of that colour is those Fe3+ atoms substituting for some silicon atoms. No damage.

BQ18 - Fluorapatite with Quartz and Muscovite. Pingwu mine, Xuebaoding, Pingwu County, China.
A specimen from the 2004 find in the Pingwu area, China. The Pingwu mine was famous for Scheelite and Cassiterite, the pink Fluorapatites were
very scarce. This one is a superb example of the gem clear pink Fluorapatites from the Xuebaoding mountain find of 2004. The Fluorapatite crystal measures 2.2 cm and is nestled on a bed of well
crystalized Muscovite. With a transparent crystal of Quartz with very well defined faces and edges. Overall a very aesthetic presentation, damage free. These Apatites are also vividly
fluorescent.
